Items needed:
10 MM socket with a driver
9/32" drill bit
5/8" drill bit (round file or Dremel tool will
work)
1(each) Green LED Assembly with built-in resistor,
Radio Shack #276-271
2(each) Tap-in Squeeze Connectors, Radio Shack
#64-3052, only 2 are needed from the pkg. of 10.
Disassembly and Installation
Set the parking brake.
Locate and remove the (1) 10 MM bolt that holds
the bottom left side lower dash panel to the dash support.
Note: this screw is a course thread.
Locate and remove the (1) 10 MM bolt that holds
the bottom right side lower dash panel to the dash support.
Note: this screw is a machine tread.
Gently pull section of the dash outward to release it from the (2)clips on the left side of the steering wheel trim.
Gently, with your finger in the boot, pull the
dash trim piece from around the transmission selector, pulling it outwards.
The (1)clip is near the top of the transmission selector.
These plastic pieces will break if handled roughly
so be careful!
After the panel is free from all of the clips,
allow the panel to be loosely held up by the transmission selector lever.
Use your fingers to reach up inside of the upper dash and make sure that there is no wiring or other things that may be damaged when you drill a hole for clearance above the LED. Move any wires ect. out of the way. There should be none there but be sure to check to make sure!
Reassemble the lower dash that contains the power mirror and illumination switch.
locate and Drill with a 9/32" hole directly over the center of the Power mirror switch. But near the back of the flat panel the mirror switch is mounted in.
Drill through the lower dash assembly and also
continue up and drill through the lower lip of the dash area that is behind
and above the Power mirror switch.
Note: The 2 holes will be in line with each other.
Remove the lower dash switch assembly again and let it rest being held by the transmission lever.
Enlarge the inside hole on the lip of the upper
dash assembly to 5/8" using a Dremel tool (file or a 5/8" drill bit).
Assemble the LED into the lower Switch panel with the LED lens so that it will shine down and illuminate the mirror switch when lighted.
Tighten the small nut and lock washer finger tight.
Locate the wiring connector where it connects to the back of the Illumination switch on the right side of the Power mirror control.
Identify the wiring connector on the back of the
Illumination switch.
Locate the "Light Green"
wire (this is the "+" voltage that you need to tap into with the Red
wire from the LED).
Locate the "White with Blue line" wire (this is the "-" voltage that you need to tap into with the Black wire from the LED).
Make the following connections with the LED mounted in the panel. The wires on the LED should be long enough to make the connections near the wire loom that goes to the Illumination switch.
Use a wire connector to connect the "Light
Green" wire to the Red wire
from the LED).
Note: To get a good wire tap connection, I connect
the LED wire and the lighting control wire on just one side of the Tap-in
Squeeze Connector.
Use a wire connector to connect the "White
with Blue line" to the Black
wire from the LED). Note: To get a good wire tap connection, I connect
the LED wire and the lighting control wire on just one side of the Tap-in
Squeeze Connector.
With the wires connected as shown.
test the LED the verify that it will work when the park or headlamps are
turned on. Also the Illumination Control will control the brightness
of the LED the same as the other dash illumination lights.
Reassemble the dash.
Gently raise the dash assembly back up into place
making sure that the LED housing goes into the large 5/8" hole that is
in the lower lip of the dash.
Gently snap the lower dash panel into place on
both sides of the steering wheel cover and use the 10 MM screws to secure
the bottom of the lower dash panel. Remember the course thread screw
is for the left side and the fine thread machine screw is for the right
side.
Release the park brake.
