Introduction
I have wanted to do an EV Conversion and break the gasoline habit for around town and the backand forth to work drive. I also feel I want to be more independent and less under the control of the Fuel Lords.
I have a friend who also has purchased a Hybrid Honda Civic, both he and i have tossed around the idea of converting a small pickup to all electric/ battery operation. I have researched a little on the internet and found that others have been successful in making the EV conversion.
I wanted to do my own conversion as CHEAPLY as possible. I made a trip to Logan, Utah and visited with Ryan at EV Source. Ryan was very helpful in answering my questions and sharing his excitment for EV conversions. Ryan also told me about the products that he sells through EV Source and gave me tips concerning what parts work well and what has less that satisfactory performance.
I decided it was time to start looking for a donor vehicle, I wanted to find a Chevy S10 or a Ford Ranger,it would need to be a 2 wheel drive, with a Manual transmission, also I wanted no power steering, no power windows, but would like to have a donor with power brakes.
I was talking to another friend and told him of my search for a donor pickup, he said he would keep his eyes open and let me know if he came across something along those lines. A few weeks past and he told me of a 1987 Chevrolet S10 that I should take a look at. We went together to go and look at it, I was not real impressed with it's condition, but, it was equipped, or not equipped with the stuff that I did not want. We contacted the Salvage company that owned the pickup and I bought it. My buddy towed me and my project to my house with his Ranger on Saturday the 8 miles.
My wife followed us to make sure we stopped if something fell off on the way!
Here is the heap in the driveway...........Time to get this conversion going!
